Adjudication @ the Katy Jazz Festival

What the Katy ISD and the City of Katry are doing is truly exemplary and inspiring. Promoting the arts and exposing all ages to the power of music, and in particular, keeping our American heritage of jazz alive and well. When schools across the country were forced to cut back on the arts, they got the unexpected – academic performance went down and truancy went up. Katy is doing a beautiful thing by standing up and making a change. Everyone knows that music stimulates the right brain, and if we don’t use it, we lose it. The human brain actually craves harmonics! But music also has a way of reaching some kids who otherwise get lost. It’s an enormous responsibility that we have to our children. I don’t know what the answer is exactly – but I know that Katy is onto something good!
